Government changes the terrain.
Regulation, legislation, municipal action, political transition, or public policy materially alters the conditions surrounding an organization or decision.
Speaking & Advisory
Erik E. Brown provides senior strategic counsel for consequential situations in which business decisions, government action, regulation, politics, institutional behavior, communications, and public risk intersect.
His work is most relevant when several of those forces are moving together—and leadership needs an independent reading of the environment before choosing a course.
Where judgment becomes necessary
Regulation, legislation, municipal action, political transition, or public policy materially alters the conditions surrounding an organization or decision.
Legal, governmental, commercial, stakeholder, communications, operational, and reputational considerations cannot be resolved in isolation.
Assumptions need to be tested, the relevant actors and incentives understood, and likely consequences considered before a course is fixed.
Political controversy, public scrutiny, institutional legitimacy, or communications pressure raises the stakes surrounding an otherwise commercial or organizational choice.
The advisory relationship
The purpose is not to impose a predefined method. It is to understand the actual environment, identify the forces shaping it, and bring disciplined judgment to the choices available.
Work may include executive and board counsel, strategic briefings, issue and institutional analysis, assumption testing, stakeholder perspective, and decision support. Relationships may be matter-specific, project-based, or continuing, depending upon the circumstances.
Brown’s perspective can complement existing legal, government-relations, communications, operational, and other specialist advisers. His role is interpretive and strategic: helping leadership see how the parts relate, where risks may compound, and which consequences deserve attention before action is taken.
Engagements are approached with appropriate discretion.
